DJ CHILD

Since it’s inception in 2003, Dj Child of Project Groundation Massive (PGM) has single handedly released over 50 mixtapes (cd’s) and over 100 remix’s on vinyl. The projects have received numerous accolades including; “Best Mixtape DJ of the Bay Area” (DJ Child—East Bay Express), ”Best Mixtape of the Year” (PGM vol. 21 “Nothing To Prove”—Riddim Magazine), “3rd Best Album of the Year” (PGM vol. 20 “Diplomatic Warrior”—Riddim Magazine), “5 Stars Album of the Month & Experts Top 10 Albums of the Year” (PGM vol. 18 “Above Dem”—The Beat Magazine), etc.

The mission of PGM is to bring real music to the peoples, undiluted from the politics of the industry. While most mixtapes are illegally bootlegging Jamaica’s top 10, DJ Child works very closely with the artists and labels, constantly breaking new songs and artists. DJ Child also runs PGM Lab, a studio in East Oakland, CA where the majority of the music is recorded (although he also frequents studios in Brooklyn, Miami, Kingston Jamaica & the Virgin Islands). The main roster of artists who have hosted PGM mixtapes are Grammy-Nominated Jahdan Blakaamoore (6 projects), Lutan Fyah (6 projects), Multi-Platinum Artist M1 of Dead Prez (3 projects), Pressure Busspipes (3 projects), Niyorah (3 projects), the Jacka (3 projects), Sizzla (2 projects), Natty King (2 projects), Freeway, Richie Spice, Abijah, Bambu Station, Perfect, Norris Man, Lady Passion, Messenjah Selah, De Apostle (1 project each) etc. etc. etc. PGM family continues to grow on a daily basis.

In addition to the music, Child also has started PGM clothing in conjuction with Stat 7, who is responsible for clothing lines for Wu-Tang & Ice-T. The clothing has been worn by just about every prominant Roots & Culture artist and can be seen in magazines and on albums & videos by Lutan Fyah, Sizzla, Richie Spice, Dead Prez etc.

Most recently, Child has gone back to his roots and is focusing heavily on original production. His resume is expanding at a accelerated rate as he is quickly becoming an extremely sought after producer for both Hip-Hop & Reggae/Hip-Hop crossover worldwide. Through numerous years of building & becoming family, he is regular producer for Dead Prez & Grammy Nominated Jahdan Blakkamooore (Snoop-Lion 20014…wrote 8 songs). And after being signed in 2013 as the only DJ/Producer to long-time comrade The Jacka of the Mob Figaz record label Artist Records (the AR), Child has produced for a large amount of the who’s who of the Bay Area…both classic OG’s & the freshest newcomers. Artists like Dru Down (the Regime, the Luniz “I Got 5 On It RMX), Joe Blow, Husalah of the Mob Figaz, Mistah FAB, Lee Majors (the Regime), Lil Blood (3rd World Contraband), Fed-X (Mob Figaz), Bandaide (the Hoodstarz), Beeda Weeda, Kaz Kyzah (the Team w/ Clyde Carson) etc.etc.etc.
DJ Child has also produced for some internationally known Hip-Hop artists, such as Busta Rhymes, Black Thought of the Roots (House band for Jimmy Fallon), Wu-Tang, Royce Da 5’9 (Bad Meets Evil along with Eminem), Bun B, Freeway, Petey Pablo, Matthew Santos (Grammy Nominated Singer on the chorus of Lupe Fiasco’s “Superstar”), Crooked I, Mitchy Slick, Mos Def etc. etc. etc. As far as Reggae, Child has produced for legends & has also been instrumental in helping break artists that were new on the scene. He has produced original tracks for Midnite, Sizzla, Capleton, Anthony B, Midnite, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Kabaka Pyramid, Cali P & many more…

Child has also started scoring/placing music in feature films & documentaries. He placed 2 tracks for Beanie Sigel & KRS-One, for the Rugged Entertainment Documentary “Rhyme & Punishment” (the makers of Tupac “Thug Angel, Notorious BIG, “Bigger Than Life”, Beef I-III and more) which premiered in May, 2009 at the LA United Film Festival. He also produced 3 tracks for the feature film “Just Another Day” (Rugged Ent.) starring Wood Harris (Next Day Air/the Wire) & Jamie Hector (the Wire) and featuring rapper/actors Petey Pablo, Lil’ Scrappy, Trick Daddy, Big Daddy Kane, Ja Rule and more. Child produced the track “Just Another Day” for Petey Pablo which is featured in the film.
In 2013 DJ Child signed a contract with Tony Hawk, & has been featured in over a dozen of his “SKATE” webisodes on his YouTube channel “RIDE”. And in the 2014 Child produced the into music to Tanner Halls (7 time X-Game Gold Medalist in Free-Skiing) epic new film “The Lost Season”.

Child’s most recent project was a year and a half labor of love creating what would be Bay Area legend, The Jacka of the Mob Figaz (RIP) last album…”What Happened To The World”. Immediately upon its release, every major media outlet called it one of, if not Jacka’s best projects of his prolific (over 50 album) career. Not only did Child curate the entire project, engineer & mix the sessions—he also mixed the project into a non stop Mixtape that was dubbed “an Audio Documentary”. Child also produced the 1st two singles on the album; “Love” and “President’s Face” (which has clocked over 1,000,000 views on youtube). Unfortunately, just 2 months to the day after the album’s release, Jacka was fatally shot in the head on February 2nd, 2015 on 94th and MacArthur in East Oakland, just blocks from Child’s studio where the entire project was created.
